Deconstructing Luxury to Make Plus-size

Sometimes you have to deconstruct as an act of protest. It’s the most political thing you can do as a fashion-oriented plus-size individual. We, who routinely get shut out of high-end fashion must take a scissors to luxury garments, to make them our own, in our size. Why not start with a pair of pants? In this case a pair of white Commes des Garçons.

I absentmindedly cut the pant before taking a before-picture of it, so I got a similar-ish photo from the internets. The fabrication is the same, however my pants were drop-crotch and the side seams curved toward the front.

So what will these Commes des Garçons become? Be the first to find out at the Brooklyn Museum of Art! MALCONTENT Plus is one of several artisans selling their wares at the Brooklyn Pop-Up Market event THIS Saturday, November 16th from 10am-5pm.

If for some reason you can’t make it, don’t worry, I will post a picture of the final results.

  • Hey! This is extremely cool. We met today at the BK Museum market – I was the fat girl with bangs in a red flower mask, and we talked about working in fashion. I would love to stay in touch!
